Since my sister Khyra was a kid, I remember her always drawing and working on crafts in her bedroom like it was a business. I can even recall a time when I entered my art into an art show and she requested to submit her work as well. I thought she was joking until we showed up and she asked me where she could display her pieces. Even still, this young woman is serious about her business and it’s evolved into a legitimate art and apparel company that turns heads everywhere it’s seen. Peace Peep Designs is more than a brand, it’s a way of life and a call to action. May we all continue to live in peace. Visit her website and social media for inspiring posts and sneak peeks of her latest designs. Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Peace Peep Designs”

Fashion Friday: Women’s Athleisure Style

Beauty is all around us and our Creator has given us so much inspiration to work with. We all know that true beauty comes from the inside, but on Fashion Fridays we discover the latest fashion and beauty trends that help us to feel beautiful on the outside.

Whether you’re running errands, running to catch your flight at the airport, or chasing a toddler around the park, you don’t have to sacrifice your style or comfort if you’re into athleisure fashion. We saw last week how men sport this style, now let’s take a look at what women are putting together for those days when they’re on the go.

Proximity, Friendship, & Purpose

When my wife and I moved to Pasadena, we realized that the decision would bring us within closer proximity to those we love, and bring greater distance between others we love.  Proximity is interesting because it breeds a false sense of comfort to those around us.  The assumption is made that if someone is within closer distance, you will actually see them more and be more involved in their life.  While this can be true, there is something that trumps the rule of Proximity.

Being Intentional.

Some great friends of ours made the comment the other day, that even though we are further away from them, we see them more often.  This is a beautiful gift because we realized that being intentional is what determines the course of the relationship.  Proximity does not equal intentionality.  There is no power in proximity.  There is only convenience in proximity.  Proximity can be used, but it is not the barometer of quality.  I have lived years in past homes without ever knowing or meeting my neighbors.  I have lived in dorm rooms at UCLA without saying a word to people down the hall.  We are not the sum total of our surroundings.  We are not a result of what was necessarily placed around us.  The universe bends according to desire.  Things like focus, intentionality and determination are things that move us based on our heart’s yearning.  We are not victims of proximity, but victorious when intentional. I was recently hired to model for a local Pasadena shop named April Blooms. The owner’s name is April and her mission is to help women of all shapes, sizes, and colors bloom and feel beautiful. I love an organization with a purpose, and the icing on the cake was finding out that she donates a portion of the shop’s sales to two organizations that support victims of human trafficking both at home in California and abroad through prevention, advocacy, prosecution, and restoration. Learn more about them at A21.org and redeemingloveca.com. When I first walked into the shop, I was immediately drawn to the textiles. Every embroidered tote bag and clutch was calling my name, as well as the clothing that has a sophisticated and high quality feel. I now own two new dresses from the shop and look forward to getting more in the future. Follow April Blooms on Facebook and Instagram to get a heads up on all of their amazing featured deals. Fashion Friday: Men’s Athleisure Style

Beauty is all around us and our Creator has given us so much inspiration to work with. We all know that true beauty comes from the inside, but on Fashion Fridays we discover the latest fashion and beauty trends that help us to feel beautiful on the outside.

Style is constantly evolving, and it’s inspiring to see different trends that allow us to be comfortable and stylish at the same time. Men used to have it easier with very limited amounts of fashion items and combinations. Now it’s more common to have guys all across the globe competing for attention in their head-turning threads. Which look is your favorite?

In Love,

Your First Letter

Dearest Little One,

What words can we use to express our love for you?  The best we can do is scramble imperfect fragments to loosely articulate something of value.  We wanted our words to be the first human thing addressed to you.  We realize that if we do not address you, everything else will.

The world that you are coming into has a way of competing for everything that is precious.  And you, little one, are our most precious prize.  The world will compete for your attention.  It will long for your affection.  When it does not receive your undying loyalty, it will move on to people that waiver.  You may then feel left out and find yourself wishing to be like everyone else.  This is normal.  We will work through it. screen-shot-2017-03-02-at-1-54-18-amWhen I booked the photoshoot for G.L.A.M. Camp for Girls after seeing the casting on Pink Couch Girl, I did what any normal adult would do: I Instagram stalked her co-director Seyi Famuyiwa. I remember telling Seyi when I submitted to be a model that–if nothing else–I’m so glad to see women of faith using their platform of fashion and content creating to spread the gospel. To me, that’s really all that matters in life and it’s comforting to see others that are of the same mindset. Going through her feed and reading her blog, I understood why these two had been chosen to organize the shoot. Her taste is impeccable and I’ve learned a few things about navigating social media from seeing how she cultivates her brand and online community. Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself.

Fashion Friday: False Lashes

Beauty is all around us and our Creator has given us so much inspiration to work with. We all know that true beauty comes from the inside, but on Fashion Fridays we discover the latest fashion and beauty trends that help us to feel beautiful on the outside.

You don’t have to be a beauty guru to apply your own false lashes. You may want something simple that looks like you grew them yourself, or something more dramatic that fans the air every time you blink. Okay, we know that’s an exaggeration. Lol. These beauties may give you some inspo the next time you’re headed out with a full face of makeup on.

In Love,

Trust in Trying Times

Trust, it’s something I would have told a younger me and something I have to remind myself constantly to do.  Trusting in God is simply obedience in action.

This past year has been a flood of emotions from the ever horrific and tragic news filling my feeds right alongside the sweet birth of my first born and all her very first moments these past 12 months.

MY PROCLIVITY

I am the type of person that can easily spiral down into deep sadness.  My proclivity is to feel deeply which is why I often turn inward to my thoughts of the depravity of man and feelings of hopelessness wash over me if I allow these thoughts to take up residence in my mind and heart.
