How I Gained Confidence Through Christ

I get asked a lot “Have you always been this confident?” The truth is: NO WAY! It took me a long time to be the confident woman I am. I’ve struggled with identity issues and feeling insecure for many reasons (that I describe in this video). It wasn’t until my walk with God was solid that I found peace in who I was because I finally understood whose I was. It’s been a journey of self-discovery that I’m sure every human has to go through in order to walk confidently through life. I still find myself dabbling in comparison and doubt, but it’s not the all-consuming fire that it used to be.

Earlier this year, I walked the runway for a fashion ministry event titled “Fashioned4Life“. The feedback was so great that the producers of the show were asked to hit the stage again. Here we are now for Fashioned4Life Ministry Showcase 2! There are seldom times when I’m able to combine my love for fashion with my love for Jesus. Kelsie and Bren have truly inspired me to get outside of my comfort zone and to be bold with whatever vision God has given me. Are you in the LA area and interested in coming? Well, you can! The event is this Sunday July 31st at 6pm. Tickets at the door are $25. We’re hoping to see you there! Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Jesus Only Gear”

Being a Christian in a Non-Christian World: Career Edition

This article was originally written in August of 2015 for Project Inspired, a website that encourages Christian teenage girls all over the world. Thank you for reading!

Know that the LORD has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him.(Psalm 4:3)

Being in the world and not of it is what we continue to seek, but what does that really look like? It is possible to live side by side with people who don’t value our beliefs, but sometimes we get distracted and can start to blend into the way our non-Christian counterparts behave. Among the several jobs I’ve had in my adult life, I’ve mostly witnessed this temptation while navigating through the entertainment industry as an actress in Hollywood. I’ve fully committed myself to this career, but the fact that I do it with biblical strings attached has literally gotten me laughed at on the set. In 2010, I met Alisha on set as she was doing makeup for my film “He Heard My Cry“. We hit it off and I really loved her sweet and genuine personality. In 2014 we saw each other at The Ellen Degeneres show when we were both pregnant with our baby girls. Time has interweaved our storylines again and again, but the greatest moment of all was seeing the birth of her daughter’s movement Khloe Kares. I vividly remember Alisha letting all of her friends on social media know that her daughter Khloe was creating purses for homeless women filled with essentials to make them feel loved. She saw a neglect for those who live on the street, and wanted to make a difference. Fast forward and now Khloe is getting invited to radio shows, talk shows, news outlets, and being tweeted by celebrities. Who says you can’t be small and do big things? Khloe’s next project will be a toy drive. This toy drive will supply barbies and trucks to kids who are in group homes. Khloe understands that other kids may not have the same privileges as her so she wants to give back. Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Khloe Kares”

I met Cece during a model fitting a few months ago. It didn’t take long for us to start talking about our love for God and how He’s impacted our careers. She mentioned that she took a leap of faith and left the corporate world to pursue her love for fashion and styling. We traded contact information and I looked up her brand La Isla Vida as soon as I got home. My jaw dropped. She mentioned that this was her first fashion line, and her designs looked as though she’s been confidently doing this for years. That’s the power of trusting in your Creator to work through you. So many opportunities have come up for her since she’s stepped into the spotlight, but the most admirable quality of her success is the fact that she chooses to use her skills to help others. Many of the red carpets she walks have a cause behind them, and she doesn’t pass up an opportunity to help others in their pursuit to make the world a brighter place. You’ll be doing yourself a favor by keeping up with this inspiring woman and seeing what her next plans are. Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Cece La Isla Vida”

If you ask any married couple about their relationship, they will tell you that it’s a lot of work. Successful marriages–and relationships in general–don’t just happen, they are cultivated. Something that is very important to me and my husband is finding other married friends who are committed to a healthy relationship, and who are willing to share the ups and downs of their journey and pray for our future as a couple. Tremell and Capitola Parker are a wonderful couple that we’ve been blessed to know for years. I could go on and on about the Godly advice they’ve given us and countless other married folk, but I’d rather you see for yourself. Watch the above video and others on their YouTube channel, and you’re sure to be blessed whether you’re single, dating, happily married, or hitting a rough patch. They’ve covered parenthood, date nights, fighting fair, celibacy, infidelity, and the important fellowship, among other things. Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Team Married”

The Problem with Comparison

Comparison is the thief of joy. It robs us of our gratitude because we’re either too busy being envious of something we don’t have, or being prideful that what we do have is better than so-and-so’s. Remember the term “Keeping up with the Jones'”? (Do people still use that phrase?) You could see it as an endearing way of striving for “better” so that we don’t become content with “not good enough”. However, everyone’s “better” looks different. If you ask a group of people what success means to them, I bet it will be a different definition to each person.

I remember when I first moved to Los Angeles from Hawaii, and I thought “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I made it all the way here. I can’t believe I’m already working as an actress just weeks after I changed my address.” I felt pretty great about myself until the auditions started wearing on me. When you’re sitting in the waiting room eager for your name to be called, sometimes other actors in the room will start chit-chatting about their career or what they’ve been up to lately. I haven’t met many Christian musicians with such a burden for the lost. Jeevo is one of them. As a humanitarian and minister, music is just one of the many mediums he uses to spread the gospel. He’s been releasing albums consistently since 2008, and his boldness and confidence in the Lord is a major reason to be excited about his upcoming concert happening next month. I’ve provided the flyer, please share and invite others to come.
