How I Gained Confidence Through Christ

I get asked a lot “Have you always been this confident?” The truth is: NO WAY! It took me a long time to be the confident woman I am. I’ve struggled with identity issues and feeling insecure for many reasons (that I describe in this video). It wasn’t until my walk with God was solid that I found peace in who I was because I finally understood whose I was. It’s been a journey of self-discovery that I’m sure every human has to go through in order to walk confidently through life. I still find myself dabbling in comparison and doubt, but it’s not the all-consuming fire that it used to be.

God has a sense of humor and so do we. Let’s get the weekend started with a good laugh!

Remember several years ago when there seemed to be a “Stuff [FILL IN THE BLANK] Say” for pretty much any type of person? Here’s the one for Christians and it’s pretty accurate. Continue reading “Funny Friday: Shoot Christians Say”

The Problem with Comparison

Comparison is the thief of joy. It robs us of our gratitude because we’re either too busy being envious of something we don’t have, or being prideful that what we do have is better than so-and-so’s. Remember the term “Keeping up with the Jones'”? (Do people still use that phrase?) You could see it as an endearing way of striving for “better” so that we don’t become content with “not good enough”. However, everyone’s “better” looks different. If you ask a group of people what success means to them, I bet it will be a different definition to each person.

I remember when I first moved to Los Angeles from Hawaii, and I thought “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I made it all the way here. I can’t believe I’m already working as an actress just weeks after I changed my address.” I felt pretty great about myself until the auditions started wearing on me. When you’re sitting in the waiting room eager for your name to be called, sometimes other actors in the room will start chit-chatting about their career or what they’ve been up to lately. My friend Jeffery has been pursuing arts since he can remember, but his passion turned into a ministry the day he created Heroic Art Studios. There has already been so much progress since the company started in October of 2014. Through comic books and animation, he’s found himself among some of the greats of the industry at comic conventions, and has also debuted a preview of the animation he’s been working on. It’s amazing to see someone respond to God’s call, and then witness everything falling into place to turn their dreams into a reality. Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Heroic Art Studios”

Acting Like a Christian

This article was originally written for Our Witness, a website that highlights personal testimonies of Christians all over the world. Since this is my first post for L’amour in Christ, I thought I should let you in on who I am as an artist and a child of God. Thank you for reading!

Being beautiful on the outside isn’t something I’m always striving to be, but knowing that I’m exuding beauty from within is very important to me. Unfortunately, it’s taken me a while to know who I truly am and to accept that person. Before my relationship with God, I struggled to feel beautiful and that’s one of the reasons my mom enrolled me in modeling classes when I was 15 years young. I didn’t know this at the time, but it was her way of boosting my self esteem and helping me to accept my femininity.

I used to think anything form-fitting was sexual, and I didn’t want the wrong kind of attention coming my way. After learning that how I carried myself spoke more about me than what I was wearing, I felt comfortable looking like a girl. These affirmations and the newfound love for myself helped kick start my modeling and acting career. Continue reading “Acting Like a Christian”
