No matter what part of the world you’re from, prints are a must-have in anyone’s wardrobe. There are so many amazing textiles from across the globe, and this week we’re feature African Prints. Sometimes looking your best helps you feel like you can conquer the world. Jessica Shakir is a celebrity makeup artist and hair stylist, and has been in the game for over 18 years. When you look at her, you ask yourself “How? Did she start out when she was 2 years old?” I know, I know. This girl doesn’t look a day over twenty. I’ve known her for over 8 years, and the most beautiful thing about Jessica is her heart for God. For years she’s been encouraging women to stay pure for God until they become a wife, and it’s exciting that she recently walked down the aisle to marry her very own Prince Charming a few short months ago. The day I met Theresa, I found out she was a fighter. In 2009, she was diagnosed with stage 2B cancer & this year marks her 7th year cancer free. She had 4 surgeries & 6 months of chemo in one year, and is thankful that her body was strong enough to sustain such an ordeal. If you thought that slowed her down one bit, you thought wrong. It only made her commitment to God and to her dreams stronger. When she’s not rubbing elbows with Hollywood’s elite, attending fashion week, or getting dressed up in ball gowns to pose on the red carpet, she’s toiling away at her luxurious brand House of Broadnax. What It Really Means To Be; “A Daughter Of The KING”

This morning I read that after an eleven year streak, the princess costume is no longer the number one favorite choice for Halloween. What has caused this change? I think there’s nothing wrong with calling our girls princesses, or encouraging them to dress as one, but let’s make sure they know the definition of a true princess. Generally the nick name, “Princess” is used to define a spoiled girl, dressed in glitter and fluff.

I think my friend Mignonette Bailey has her hands in about a dozen different things, and each one is successfully curated and executed. When she started her company Sole of Brasil, the shopper in me immediately wanted to start purchasing every sandal, flat, and strappy heel she offered. Something that I’m drawn to in a entrepreneur is a heart for putting others first and using their platform to reach people in need. She is no different, and her cause is that with every purchase, Sole of Brasil makes a donation to the Dream Center’s Human Trafficking Program to house and rehabilitate women who have been rescued from traffickers.
