One of Those Days

Our contributor Lauren has graciously allowed us to feature her writing with our readers. Stay tuned for more contributors in the future! This article was originally posted on Oh, Hey Motherhood!

Have you ever had one of those days? You know, those days where nothing goes as it should? Where when something goes wrong, you just mutter “of course”? Where you’re unproductive and frustrated? I had one on Monday.

Ava and I were out of school. We were supposed to have an easygoing day, especially because she had an ear infection. But as the day progressed, I realized I had a few seemingly tiny things to do. Continue reading “One of Those Days”

The Standard Of Christianity

Have you ever been let down by a Brother or Sister in Christ who seemed to take advantage of the notion that every action and reaction is covered by grace? Are you the Christian who thinks you can do whatever you want and have no consequences because our God is a God of mercy? These thoughts have been bouncing around my head lately after being underwhelmed by some of my interactions with other believers in relationships, business, and daily life. I am not a perfect friend, family member, business partner, or person in general, but I do strive to be more like Christ every day. I believe that’s what God is expecting from us.

On a phone conversation with a friend, I was mentioning how I used to have this naivety about other Christians and felt that “We’re all believers, so we unquestionably have the same standards.” That rose-colored phrase has proven to be wrong time and time again. If it was so easy to live a holy life, everyone would do it. I’m open to seeing how I can be a better steward of this life. If you are as well, I’d love to share with you what I’ve learned so far. The more I learn about how our diet and lifestyle affect our health, the more grateful I am that God has placed some amazing and knowledgeable Christians in my life. Jamie Chan-Ortega of Oasis Healing Arts is one of those people. I remember having conversations with her about the misinformation that is out there about nutrition, and how our immune system will succeed or fail depending on how we feed it. I remember my younger days of surviving on fast food and thinking my Arizona Green Iced Tea was healthy. I was constantly fatigued and would catch any bug that was going around throughout the year. Thanks to friends like Jamie, my family hardly gets sick and–believe it or not–we don’t survive off of kale and green smoothies. Balance is the key to life, and I hope you check out more information that Oasis Healing Arts has to offer. Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Oasis Healing Arts”

What Does it Mean to be a Proverbs 31 Woman?

What does it mean to have it all, do it all, and be everything to everyone? I don’t know, but it makes me tired just thinking about it. I think most Christian women have Proverbs 31 on a pedestal, but many of us are asking “How do I apply this to my life?”

I’m not an early riser and I don’t have female servants. I don’t own property (yet), neither do I wish to have a vineyard. You would think that this wife of noble character described in the bible is a busy-body, but we’ve learned in Luke 10:38-42 that sitting at the Lord’s feet is far more important than having your hands full. While looking through my list of people I wanted to promote through this website, I was shocked that I hadn’t gotten to my dear friend Amy Jean yet! She’s a painter, photographer, tattoo artist, wife, mother, and just all around amazing human being. So amazing in fact that she introduced me to my husband 8 years ago. I interviewed her on my personal webpage when I was doing a series that highlighted artist. And here we are again. The thing I admire about her the most is that she brings humor and joy everywhere she goes. Her laid back approach–which fits very well into her home of Hawaii–is a reminder that we all need to breathe every once in a while, forget the to-do list, and keep the important things of life a priority. I only know a few artists that excel in everything they put their hands to, and she is one of them. Follow her Instagram if you don’t believe me. Before starting my YouTube channel, me and my mother were doing research on other YouTubers with similar ideas, faith, and personality. My mom sent me a link to Ashley Empowers and I was hooked. I watched a few episodes of her “Dating With Purpose” series, and I also followed the journey of her relationship, engagement, marriage, and now newborn baby girl. God will never give you a complete and detailed blueprint of what you are called to do (it may overwhelm you!), but He will show you step by step in a way that you need to be encouraged and sometimes that means linking you up (through the internets) with other believers that are doing similar work for His Kingdom. I’m so inspired by Ashley and her husband Carrington. Please take time to visit all of her links and see what she’s up to. Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Ashley Empowers”

How I Made Meaningful Friendships on the First Day of School

This article was originally written in September of 2015 for Project Inspired, a website that encourages Christian teenage girls all over the world. Thank you for reading!

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7)

For some of you, school is back in session. Have you asked the Lord for His help in making new friends? If you’re anything like me, you’re a ball of nerves when school starts. Making friends on the first day sometimes seemed impossible for me, and it took a while to get used to introducing myself and getting to know other teens. Honestly, my favorite part of the summer ending was shopping and overpacking my backpack with enough school supplies to last the entire year (I still over prepare). Some of my least favorite things were wondering if I’d get lost trying to find my class and who I would sit next to during lunch. Just Say “Thank You”

Have you ever given someone a compliment that was genuine and from the heart only to hear them say “Aw, no. You don’t have to say that.” or “No, I’m not that smart/beautiful/helpful/etc.” For me, the most difficult thing about being in that situation is that I love building others up. If I say “You have an awesome gift for makeup artistry” and the person responds “No, I suck.” all I hear them say to me is “You’re a liar and you don’t know what you’re talking about.” My first reaction isn’t to think “Wow, that person is so humble.”

I’ve had a few friends and acquaintances who believed that humility was shunning any compliments and words of encouragement. There is a difference between being okay if someone doesn’t think the world of you versus feeling like you have to put off every kind positive gesture in order to keep your pride at bay. How should you deal with this? Continue reading “Just Say “Thank You””

Earlier this year, I walked the runway for a fashion ministry event titled “Fashioned4Life“. The feedback was so great that the producers of the show were asked to hit the stage again. Here we are now for Fashioned4Life Ministry Showcase 2! There are seldom times when I’m able to combine my love for fashion with my love for Jesus. Kelsie and Bren have truly inspired me to get outside of my comfort zone and to be bold with whatever vision God has given me. Are you in the LA area and interested in coming? Well, you can! The event is this Sunday July 31st at 6pm. Tickets at the door are $25. We’re hoping to see you there! Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Jesus Only Gear”
