Fashion Friday: His and Hers Back to School

Beauty is all around us and our Creator has given us so much inspiration to work with. We all know that true beauty comes from the inside, but on Fashion Fridays we discover the latest fashion and beauty trends that help us to feel beautiful on the outside.

We think the question at the forefront of every student’s mind is: what do I wear for the first week of school? After the supplies are bought, the bags are packed, and the summer is coming to an end, some of you may be wondering how to mix and match your new jeans, tops, skirts, and dresses. Recently, I modeled in a runway show. Weeks before the event date, I was scheduled to have a fitting with Casonna herself. When I arrived, she was passionately working away on her sewing machine in her home studio. This gave me time to take in the work in progress on her dress form, the many swatches of fabric that would soon become elegant wardrobe pieces, and the closet bursting at the seams with dresses, jumpsuits, skirts, gowns, etc. I only had to try on one gown, and it fit like it was made for me. The best part about wearing her gown on the runway was seeing the joy in Casonna’s eyes as her gaze went from model to model taking in the amazing work of her hands. She is one of the most humble and talented designers I’ve had the pleasure of working with, and I just had to give her a shoutout here on L’amour In Christ. Earlier this year, I walked the runway for a fashion ministry event titled “Fashioned4Life“. The feedback was so great that the producers of the show were asked to hit the stage again. Here we are now for Fashioned4Life Ministry Showcase 2! There are seldom times when I’m able to combine my love for fashion with my love for Jesus. Kelsie and Bren have truly inspired me to get outside of my comfort zone and to be bold with whatever vision God has given me. Are you in the LA area and interested in coming? Well, you can! For the past several years it’s really been on my heart to adopt as well as have biological children. The story of adults who have been in the foster system as well as those who were adopted really resonated with me. I don’t think everyone has to or should adopt, but The Lord has definitely opened up my heart to the idea. Where do you start though? I always thought I would “find my future children” through volunteering, mentoring, or some type of community organization where I would get to know them and God would say “this is the one”. I’ve been meaning to highlight Karla Storey after seeing her fashion ministry on Instagram. Imagine my surprise when I go to her about section and she explains how her heart is for orphans, fostering, and adopting. Additionally, part of her proceeds goes towards helping them to have a better life. When you put your money where you mouth is, great things start to happen. Add Jesus to that, and all possibilities start to rise to the surface. I’m looking forward to seeing her flourish, and I thank God that there are so many out there making a difference. I’ve been following She Paints Truth on social media for a while ever since my small group sisters told me about the awesome biblical daily encouragement they provide through art. It wasn’t until I saw a post from the founder Christie that I stopped in my tracks. Around the same time, we both posted about our walk with God and how He confirmed who our spouse was. Her story is a little different than mine, but the overall message is the same. After social media stalking her (I know I’m not the only one! Lol.), I thought it would be more than appropriate to give her a feature. I love what she’s doing in her personal testimony as well as her art platform to share the gospel. I met Cece during a model fitting a few months ago. It didn’t take long for us to start talking about our love for God and how He’s impacted our careers. She mentioned that she took a leap of faith and left the corporate world to pursue her love for fashion and styling. We traded contact information and I looked up her brand La Isla Vida as soon as I got home. My jaw dropped. She mentioned that this was her first fashion line, and her designs looked as though she’s been confidently doing this for years. That’s the power of trusting in your Creator to work through you. So many opportunities have come up for her since she’s stepped into the spotlight, but the most admirable quality of her success is the fact that she chooses to use her skills to help others. Many of the red carpets she walks have a cause behind them, and she doesn’t pass up an opportunity to help others in their pursuit to make the world a brighter place.
