Recently, I modeled in a runway show. Weeks before the event date, I was scheduled to have a fitting with Casonna herself. When I arrived, she was passionately working away on her sewing machine in her home studio. This gave me time to take in the work in progress on her dress form, the many swatches of fabric that would soon become elegant wardrobe pieces, and the closet bursting at the seams with dresses, jumpsuits, skirts, gowns, etc. I only had to try on one gown, and it fit like it was made for me. The best part about wearing her gown on the runway was seeing the joy in Casonna’s eyes as her gaze went from model to model taking in the amazing work of her hands. She is one of the most humble and talented designers I’ve had the pleasure of working with, and I just had to give her a shoutout here on L’amour In Christ. Check out her website and hopefully you’ll find that dress for your upcoming wedding day, formal event, or vacation. (And you might see a familiar face!)

Here’s a little about her in her own words:

“It’s been said that necessity is the mother of invention and for me, that was true. As a young girl playing with my fashion dolls, I wanted new outfits for them. My mom, a single parent of three, couldn’t afford to take me to our  local toy store to buy them, so with the sewing skill I had at 9 years old, I started making them from scraps of fabric and old clothes.

I realized then the wonderful gift God placed in my hands. I began making clothes for myself and my best friend (my first model). My senior year in high school, I was paid to make our school’s homecoming robe and I designed and made dresses for a few of my classmates.  Standing at 4’11” with a beyond average bust, small waist and oh those hips, proved challenging at best and more than discouraging when shopping in clothing stores. This fueled my desire and need to design and make my own garments.

People loved what I did and I was proud to say “I made it!” Other women, each with their own unique fit challenges, began hiring me to design and make one of a kind pieces for them and Casonna was born. For over 25 years my passion for fashion has been driven by a desire to help women embrace their oh so beautiful bodies and to understand that their beauty and worth in society has NOT been relegated to any certain size, but can be enhanced through self confidence. I know having quality garments that really FIT help us to stand a little taller and LOVE the fact that each one of us is LIKE NO OTHER!”

In Love,
