Just Say “Thank You”

Have you ever given someone a compliment that was genuine and from the heart only to hear them say “Aw, no. You don’t have to say that.” or “No, I’m not that smart/beautiful/helpful/etc.” For me, the most difficult thing about being in that situation is that I love building others up. If I say “You have an awesome gift for makeup artistry” and the person responds “No, I suck.” all I hear them say to me is “You’re a liar and you don’t know what you’re talking about.” My first reaction isn’t to think “Wow, that person is so humble.”

I’ve had a few friends and acquaintances who believed that humility was shunning any compliments and words of encouragement. There is a difference between being okay if someone doesn’t think the world of you versus feeling like you have to put off every kind positive gesture in order to keep your pride at bay. How should you deal with this? Continue reading “Just Say “Thank You””

How Do I Not Live In Fear?

I remember just days after having my daughter and feeling this illogical anxiety that something was going to happen to her…or to us. Like a flood, all of the bad things that have ever happened in the history of the world suddenly consumed my brain.

It wasn’t safe to go outside.

It wasn’t safe to stay inside.

It clearly wasn’t safe to be alive.

Why had I decided to bring this innocent child into a world of suffering? Why not just live my life, be a good person, and wait for my last breath while serving Jesus with all I had? Continue reading “How Do I Not Live In Fear?”

A few months ago, I was asked by my friend Charity Watts to be a part of a photoshoot that would be featured on a new website that was launching soon. The premise was to get women prepared for marriage…but what does that mean? After asking many married friends how she could prepare for her future spouse, Miss Watts gained a wealth of knowledge. With that wealth of knowledge she felt the burden to share with other women who may be asking the same questions and having the same doubts about being ready. Charity is the perfect name for this kind-hearted soul whose first instinct is to give rather than receive. Sign up today on Wifey Ready for exclusive access and to be the first to see the pre-launch. Clothing, accessories, inspiration, testimonies, and events are just around the corner. It’s all going down on July 31st, 2016.

Here’s a little about her movement in her own words:

Do you remember the feeling of going into an exam calmly and confidently prepared VS. the feeling of going in nervous and sweaty because you weren’t prepared!? Those feelings can apply to almost every aspect of life! When we don’t take out time to plan, it’s easy to just let life, relationships, and situations happen, but with that comes results that just…..happen! Just like in school, the more you prepared for the big exam the better you did. How about taking a pro-active approach in preparing for the life you want, including marriage and being a wife!? You desire to be married, you desire to have a GREAT marriage….do YOUR part now in planning to become to the best future Mrs. [FILL IN THE BLANK] God has created and planned for YOU to be!

Being a Christian in a Non-Christian World: Campus Edition

This article was originally written in August of 2015 for Project Inspired, a website that encourages Christian teenage girls all over the world. Thank you for reading!

Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe. (1 Timothy 4:12)

You may be roaming a school campus in a few short months. This means high school or–for some of you–college is starting up again. I survived both with very few scars and I can tell you the balancing act is not easy, but it’s highly possible. My story isn’t a perfect one, but hopefully I can help to encourage you if you’re teetering on the edge or finding yourself isolated because of your beliefs.

If you’re anything like me and you’ve grown up in a Christian household, your parents were pretty strict. Not that I was always trying to get away with doing something I wasn’t supposed to, but it was a lot easier—and encouraged by my peers—if I was at school versus at home. When most students were hooking up, trying to coast through their classes and paying more attention to their outfits than their homework assignments, staying on course was one of the most difficult things for me to do. So how do we motivate ourselves to pack our values right next to our textbooks without fear of being ostracized? Continue reading “Being a Christian in a Non-Christian World: Campus Edition”

For the past several years it’s really been on my heart to adopt as well as have biological children. The story of adults who have been in the foster system as well as those who were adopted really resonated with me. I don’t think everyone has to or should adopt, but The Lord has definitely opened up my heart to the idea. Where do you start though? I always thought I would “find my future children” through volunteering, mentoring, or some type of community organization where I would get to know them and God would say “this is the one”. I’ve been meaning to highlight Karla Storey after seeing her fashion ministry on Instagram. Imagine my surprise when I go to her about section and she explains how her heart is for orphans, fostering, and adopting. Additionally, part of her proceeds goes towards helping them to have a better life. When you put your money where you mouth is, great things start to happen. Add Jesus to that, and all possibilities start to rise to the surface. I’m looking forward to seeing her flourish, and I thank God that there are so many out there making a difference. I’ve been following She Paints Truth on social media for a while ever since my small group sisters told me about the awesome biblical daily encouragement they provide through art. It wasn’t until I saw a post from the founder Christie that I stopped in my tracks. Around the same time, we both posted about our walk with God and how He confirmed who our spouse was. Her story is a little different than mine, but the overall message is the same. After social media stalking her (I know I’m not the only one! Lol.), I thought it would be more than appropriate to give her a feature. I love what she’s doing in her personal testimony as well as her art platform to share the gospel. Check out her links and subscribe if you love Jesus, art, family, or all of the above. Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with She Paints Truth”

Funny Friday: Shoot Christians Say

God has a sense of humor and so do we. Let’s get the weekend started with a good laugh!

Remember several years ago when there seemed to be a “Stuff [FILL IN THE BLANK] Say” for pretty much any type of person? Here’s the one for Christians and it’s pretty accurate. Continue reading “Funny Friday: Shoot Christians Say”

In 2010, I met Alisha on set as she was doing makeup for my film “He Heard My Cry“. We hit it off and I really loved her sweet and genuine personality. In 2014 we saw each other at The Ellen Degeneres show when we were both pregnant with our baby girls. Time has interweaved our storylines again and again, but the greatest moment of all was seeing the birth of her daughter’s movement Khloe Kares. I vividly remember Alisha letting all of her friends on social media know that her daughter Khloe was creating purses for homeless women filled with essentials to make them feel loved. She saw a neglect for those who live on the street, and wanted to make a difference. Fast forward and now Khloe is getting invited to radio shows, talk shows, news outlets, and being tweeted by celebrities. Who says you can’t be small and do big things? Khloe’s next project will be a toy drive. This toy drive will supply barbies and trucks to kids who are in group homes. Khloe understands that other kids may not have the same privileges as her so she wants to give back. Continue reading “Promo Tuesday with Khloe Kares”
